Alpine Meadows Ski Area Only ten minutes from Tahoe City, California and Lake Tahoe. The terrain is open and varied and offers something for everyone: the ultra-expert, the rank beginner or the family that just wants to take it easy. Alpine Meadows offers a nice respite from the larger and more crowded areas, which makes this ski area a locals favorite. Squaw Valley, USA Consistently rated in the top ten North American ski resorts, offers a lot.. Some of the most challenging expert slopes , as well as easier wide-open cruising bowls. Beginners are not to be left out, since Squaw Valley has many treeless (and hot-dog less) beginner hills at the upper elevations with beautiful views. Plus, cross-country skiers can cruise the trails. Bring your swimsuit or your ice skates, because the top-of-the-tram complex at High Camp offers an ice skating rink, swimming pools, spas and even a bungee tower! Apres-ski activities are plentiful in Tahoe City's restaurants and nightclubs which are an easy 10-15 minute drive away. Heavenly Valley Ski Area Heavenly Valley is the largest ski area in the United States in skiable acres. From the highest peak elevation in Lake Tahoe (10,400), the California side of Heavenly drops 3,500 vertical feet, seemingly straight down, toward the cluster of high rise casinos. Terrain varies from beginner to expert, and many runs are covered with Heavenly's extensive snow making system. Heavenly is a great place to cruise wide-open runs, with views of either Lake Tahoe or the valleys in Nevada.
